It is a pleasure to welcome you to Kingsmead. I am proud to be the Head of an inspirational school with excellent staff.
At Kingsmead we understand that each child is unique: we strive to unlock the potential every person has no matter what role they hold within our school.
We do do this by removing any barriers to success, recruiting the best staff and challenging them to be outstanding in their day-to-day practice.
We demand the highest commitment from teachers, governors and students. We do this for our students, parents and local community and believe that our values of resilience, innovation, mindfulness and employability will help us to reach this goal.
Kingsmead is a school for taking chances, it is a school to excel in, it is a school that will always challenge you to try harder, to do better, to be honest with yourself and proud of what you achieve.
I hope that sharing our mission statement gives you a flavour of our school. Please feel free to browse our website to help you to find out more about our happy, friendly and successful school. If however you would like to find more, or indeed arrange a visit to see us, please contact Mrs Debbie Derry (the Head's PA).

Welcome to Kingsmead Sixth Form!
Applications for September 2021 will open Monday 23rd November - more to follow...
We are pleased that you are considering Kingsmead Sixth Form to continue your post-16 education.
I am honoured and privileged to lead such an innovative and successful Sixth Form with a great reputation within the local community. Our Sixth Form is one that is thriving, and rapidly growing in numbers and the reasons are clear. We are able to boast an average A-Level grade of a ‘B+’, an average vocational grade of a ‘Distinction+’ and a 100% pass rate in all subjects that we offer. Our offer includes 29 academic and vocational courses that span a wide range of learning styles. They include both traditional, academic subjects such as English, Maths and the Sciences but also pioneering courses such as Animal Management, Criminology and Law. Kingsmead Sixth Form really is an exciting place to work and learn.
We firmly believe that there is much more to Sixth Form life than the academic outcomes. Everything that we do in our Sixth Form is based around what is best for our students and this is encapsulated within our Sixth Form Pledge. This pledge ensures that students leave us as resilient, innovative, mindful and employable individuals. This includes everything from academic outcomes to ensuring our students are prepared with secure knowledge of the real world including a sound awareness of personal finance, basic CPR, first-aid and sign language. We develop the individual and our students have the opportunity to flourish academically, grow and develop into mature young people, and be ready to embrace the exciting challenges of university, higher level apprenticeships or employment.
A strong support network will give you the scope to lead, take responsibility, and develop strong relationships with adults and younger students and to gain greater confidence. You will be able to experience unique and exciting opportunities. Animal Management students will make use of our on-site farm and exotic animal centre where we have sheep, snakes and bearded dragon to name a few! Criminology, Law and Psychology students will enter the ‘Murder House’ where they will visit the scene of a crime, take fingerprints and look to identify what happened and our Computer Science students will create their own fully functioning computer program or game! We strongly recommend that you take the time to look at the range of courses we have available and the destinations of our leavers who have gone to Russell Group universities, degree apprenticeships and the world of work.
Whatever your career ambitions, subject choices or interests, we are sure you will find Kingsmead Sixth Form a challenging, exciting and enjoyable place to be.
