Last Wednesday Year 8 students had an excellent assembly from Mr N Bury about Deaf Awareness week which is May 14th-May 20th.
The students all had a chance to sign up to learn basic British Sign Language, including basic fingerspelling, numbers and greetings. My Bury Commented that, “the students have all got on superbly. I was really impressed with their attitude during the first lesson. I have given them a challenge of trying to sign a song during their year group assembly by the end of the year.”
The next session will take place in 2 weeks time. Mr Broomhall, progress leader for year 8 added, “the students were really engaged in learning British Sign Language, many of them can now sign their own name. It was incredible to see how much they learnt in a short space of time and I look forward to seeing the students sign a song in an assembly in the near future. The students were grateful to My Bury for kindly offering to help them learn a really important life skill.”
