Following on from the year 9 STEM day in March, 7 students (Sam Mawle, Tyrone Evans, Declan Thawley, Liam Andre, Daniela Breban, Luke Cotterell and Isaac Nicholls) along with Mrs Read and Miss Wilcox, attended the STEM Robotics Grand Final at Lichfield Cathedral on Tuesday 26th June.
Students were put into teams and given an hour to build, adapt, programme and test a robotic vehicle. They were judged on team work, design, skills and innovation. During this time, ...parents were given the opportunity to meet representatives from local universities, the National Space centre, local engineering companies and the Royal Navy to view and discuss pathways for science and engineering as future careers.
Despite stiff competition from eleven other schools, including Barr Beacon, Chase Terrace, Joseph Leckie Academy and The Lichfield Cathedral School, Kingsmead were the overall winners.
Our ‘A’ team of Sam Mawle, Tyrone Evans and Declan Thawley are now the BECSLink Community Awards STEM Robotics 2018 Champions. Kingsmead Schools was also presented with £500 worth of robotics equipment.
Well done to all involved, what an achievement!
