On Thursday 22nd March, 59 year 9 students took part in a STEM project delivered by the Smallpiece Trust. This charitable organisation aims to introduce students to the opportunities for science, engineering and maths as future careers.
The day involved completing team building activities and then working as a team to design, build and test a water filtration and purification system that could be used in schools or community buildings. Each team had to elect a project manager, designer, builder, costing manager, and a marketing manager to design, build and promote their product.
All students rose to the occasion and work brilliantly as teams to complete the task. At the end of judging, only 5 points separated the first and last team out of ten teams. They were judges on team work, product design, product efficiency and marketing presentation.
A great day was had by all and some valuable skills and lessons learned.
