Following tutor qualifying rounds and house assemblies, the finalists of the great Kingsmead bake off locked horns in a thrilling competition on Wednesday. Previous rounds had students baking cupcakes of any variety with a wide range of interesting flavours and colours chosen.
For the final the competition shifted up a gear and tested students' culinary skills to the limit!
The category that was chosen was sponge cakes and the 10 finalists had 2 hours to bake and decorate their master piece in school.
All the finalists worked solidly for the full 2 hours and the cakes were all in the oven after 45 minutes. The cakes included Victoria sponges, choclate cakes, caramel fudge cake and a pinata cake. Students worked hard to keep their areas tidy and they looked incredibly organised.
After baking and decorating their cakes three well qualified judges had the unenviable challenge of deciding a winner. There were 3 categories: appearance, taste and texture.
The winners were...
1st - Mia Taylor (Coppice)
2nd - Aine Bromley (Littleton)
2nd - Jeevan Bahia (Wimblebury)
2nd - Millie Long (Valley)
3rd - Josh Milakovic (Wimblebury)
